International Women 's Day 2023Aligning the gender equity and social protection agenda towards ending TBJoin us on 7 March from 12:15-13:30 CETRegister hereTo mark International Women's Day on March 8th, the World Health Organization (WHO)’s Global Tuberculosis Programme is hosting a special webinar on gender equity, social protection and tuberculosis (TB).TB is one of the top infectious killers in the world, but its distribution and impact are profoundly uneven and influenced by gender inequalities. The burden of TB is notoriously higher among men; however, women are known to have less access to TB care and to experience more hurdles when dealing with the disease and its treatment.A gender transformative TB response would not only accelerate progress towards ending TB, but would also contribute to the overall goal of a gender-sensitive health sector. Social protection may contribute to strengthening a gender-transformative response to TB by enhancing women’s agency, increasing their income, promoting access to health care services, reducing stigma and their exposure to key TB-risk factors (such as HIV/AIDS and food insecurity) and, finally, by fostering school enrollment and retention for girls and adolescents. The session will include the voices of women affected by, or at high risk of TB, researchers, policy makers, and TB and social protection implementers to raise awareness on the impact of TB among women, the potential of social protection to improve their quality of life, and begin aligning the TB, gender equity and social protection agendas.Key speakers include, Dr Tereza Kasaeva, Assistant Director-General, a.i. Universal Health Coverage/Communicable and Non Communicable Diseases; Ashna Ashesh, Lawyer and MDR TB Survivor; Jamilya Ismoilova, WHO Civil Society Task Force Representative and other key experts.Join us, register in advance for this webinar here:https://who.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_USXz4lmfRR-QcGvkXnPjBA
