With the help of “contact points for national strategies”, created under the strategic framework, EU OSHA has collected information and compiled a report on national strategies. This report currently includes the national OSH strategies of 25 Member States: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Ireland, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.

      Occupational safety and health (OSH) professionals and their practices have had to change with the times to remain relevant. A new discussion paper examines the role of prevention services in supporting compliance with OSH standards in the European Union. It identifies gaps in knowledge and key issues for professional practice in OSH, along with the challenges for policy and research.

      What is an e-tool? An e-tool is a piece of software that can run on the Internet, on a computer or on a phone, tablet or any other electronic device. The ‘e’ — as in ‘electronic’ — differentiates these tools from traditional paper-based tools or publications.

      All personal data collected by EU-OSHA is processed in accordance with the provisions of the new Regulation (EU) 2018/1725 of 23 October 2018 on the protection of natural persons with regard to the processing of personal data by the Union institutions, bodies, offices and agencies and on the free movement of such data.

      The so-called ‘New Approach’ represents an innovative way of technical harmonisation by splitting the responsibilities between the European legislator and the European standards bodies. The ‘New Approach’ is based on the following fundamental principles:

      This has given rise to a wide range of green jobs — jobs which contribute to preserving the environment, or restoring it to what it was. If they are to be truly sustainable, though, we need to make sure that these jobs provide safe, healthy and decent working conditions. Green jobs need to be good for workers, as well as good for the environment.

      Increasing employment levels and prolonging people’s working lives have been important objectives of national and European policies since the late 1990s. The EU-27 employment rate for people aged 55–64 years has increased from 40.5% in 2005 to 58.5% in 2018. This is still well below the employment rate of those aged 20–64 years, which stood at 72.6% in 2018.

      At workplaces where workers can be exposed to a virus, which belongs to the category biological agents, employers have to carry out a workplace risk assessment and set appropriate measures. The guidance presented on this page is aimed at supporting employers in these duties. The minimum legal requirements are laid out in the Biological Agents Directive.

      One of EU-OSHA’s key objectives is the identification and provision of credible, high-quality data of these new and emerging occupational safety and health (OSH) risks that meet the needs of policy-makers and researchers and allow them to take timely and effective action.
